Surabaya - Indonesian SOE Minister Erick Thohir paid a working visit to the Kebonrojo Post Office in Surabaya on Wednesday (14/6/23) to monitor the transformation project of one of PT Pos Indonesia's assets managed by PT Pos Properti, a subsidiary of PT Pos Indonesia.
The Dutch colonial heritage building will be developed into a creative hub called Pos Bloc Surabaya, the 3rd Pos Bloc built by PT Pos Properti after Pos Bloc Jakarta and Medan.
Pos Indonesia, together with PT Pos Properti, is very active in carrying out various strategies to optimize and transform PT Pos assets by targeting millennials and Gen-Y as the target market. Pos Bloc Surabaya is a placemaking project resulting from collaboration between PT Pos Properti, a subsidiary of Pos Indonesia, and PT Ruang Kreatif Pos, a subsidiary of PT Radar Ruang Riang.
Junita explained, "This creative hub is also planned to be utilized for various arts, culture, entertainment, and creative community meetings, with the main goal of empowering local businesses created by Indonesian creative industry players".
The SOE Minister's visit was accompanied by President Director of Pos Indonesia Faizal R. Djoemadi, Finance Director of Pos Indonesia Endy Pattia Rahmadi Abdurrahman, and Director of Pos Properti Junita Roemawi and their respective staffs.
On this occasion, Erick Thohir also conducted a site tour of the entire Pos Bloc Surabaya construction area, which has been under renovation since February 2023. Currently, the construction project is running at 90%, with plans for the grand opening of Pos Bloc Surabaya in early November 2023.
Pos Bloc Surabaya utilizes historical assets that were originally the Dutch East Indies-era Post Office Building, with a building area of 6,496 square meters. Built in the 1800s, this building was originally the Surabaya Regent's Office, after which it turned into a Hogere Burgerschool (HBS), or a school for European aristocrats, until 1923, when one of the students was the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno. Finally, the building was renovated by Dutch architect G.P.J.M. Bolsius in 1926 before turning into the Kebonrojo Post Office in Surabaya until today. Due to its historical value, the government designated this building as a cultural heritage building.
