The free book delivery program originated from a meeting between the President of Indonesia and literacy activists when they met face to face at the National Palace to coincide with National Education Day on May 2, 2017. At the meeting, literacy activists wanted the government to help send free books every month, and the Indonesian President approve and order Pos Indonesia to carry out the order. Based on the order, Pos Indonesia made a Decree of the Director of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) Number KD. 55/Dirut/0517 dated May 17, 2017, concerning Free Shipping for One Day in One Month and KD. 142/Dit. Courier Service/1117 concerning First Amendment to KD.55/Dirut/0517, and Circular of the Board of Directors of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) Number SE 36/Dir. Letters and Packages/0517 dated May 17, 2017, concerning Free One-Day Delivery in One Month and SE 87/ Dit. Courier/117 Services about Changes to Book Delivery Free of One Day Shipping Fee Terms.
Based on the Decree of the Board of Directors of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) Number KD. 55/Dirut/0517 dated May 17, 2017, for the first time on May 20, 2017, the delivery of free books is carried out throughout the country and for the next month, the delivery of free books is set every month on the 17th with a shipment weight of 10 kg for one shipment. At the inaugural launch of the free book delivery, according to Pos Indonesia was attended by the Minister of Education and Culture (Muhadjir Effendy) and said that the Ministry of Education and Culture would assist in the delivery of free books.
