Coordination Meeting on Handling Telecommunication Access in the Flood and Landslide Disasters in Sumatra

On Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Medan Class I Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Center (Balmon Medan), Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid announced that the recovery of telecommunications networks after the floods in Sumatra continues to show positive progress. In North Sumatra, particularly in Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, and Sibolga, approximately 90 percent of the network has been restored. West Sumatra has even reached 95 percent, while Aceh remains a concern as the recovery rate remains below 60 percent. The government is pushing for acceleration with support from operators and PLN, and is targeting recovery in Aceh to reach 75 percent by December 5, including the addition of satellite network access by Bakti Komdigi.

Acting President Director of Pos Indonesia, Haris, explained that 141 operational offices have been affected by the floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This number equates to 14 percent of the total 976 post offices in Region 1 Sumatra. The details include one Medan branch office out of nine, and six branch offices: Sibolga, Meulaboh, Lhokseumawe, Langsa, Sigli, and Solok, out of a total of 42 branch offices. Additionally, there are 24 non-LPU branch offices out of 240, and 110 LPU branch offices out of 685 offices.

Despite these limitations, Pos Indonesia continues to engineer routes to ensure logistics and distribution services can continue to reach areas isolated by the disaster.

Haris also stated that the distribution of the Social Assistance Program (BLTS Kesra) in the three disaster-affected provinces is still relatively low compared to other provinces. Aceh has only reached 47 percent, North Sumatra 67 percent, and West Sumatra 74 percent, while the current national figure stands at 81 percent.

As a form of concern, Pos Indonesia has launched the "Pos Kargo Peduli" service, a free aid delivery service for those wishing to provide support to those in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. To coordinate aid delivery, the public can contact WhatsApp at 085-1213-800-99. Aid will be sent from Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya to the BKBD Command Post in the affected areas, for further distribution to those in need.
